(Yicai Global) Sept. 25 -- The Cyberspace Administration of China has released the latest results of its privacy assessment for the country's ten most popular mobile internet products. All products assessed made some degree of improvement, while eight of them were commended for providing more privacy options to users.

The services covered in the evaluation include Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s [HKG:0700] vastly popular social networking and lifestyle app WeChat, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s [NYSE:BABA] e-commerce platform Taobao and its third-party payment platform Alipay, state-run China News Service reported on Sept. 24.

All ten products clearly state their rules for collecting and using personal information, and explicitly ask for related authorization from users. Five of the services, including WeChat, Taobao and Alipay, allow users to rescind these permissions.

These products also provide functions related to the correction and deletion of personal information, and the online cancellation of accounts.

The respective operators of the selected ten products signed up to the Personal Information Protection Initiative upon publication of the results. They promised to respect the rights of users on awareness of and control over personal information and to comply with user empowerment requirements.
