(Yicai Global) June 3 -- American chip giant Qualcomm Technologies and China's Huami, Xiaomi's exclusive smart wearables partner, have penned a deal to create eSIM cards that allow devices to make and receive phone calls.

The pair will also cooperate in artificial intelligence and health data analysis to explore new applications for wearable products, China News Service reported today, citing a statement from the pair.

Huami's Amazfit-branded devices will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 mobile platform -- which is small, energy efficient and stable -- for the first time, the report added, saying this allows for new designs, functions and connectivity and will enable the products to use eSIMs for all mobile carriers. The move marks Huami wearables' first foray into 4G networks.

The firm, founded in 2014 and with Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun among its major shareholders, will showcase the product at its 2019 launch event for news products in Beijing on June 11.

Huami's main products include smart wristbands, scales and watches which can sync with Xiaomi apps. It has four subsidiaries in Beijing, Hefei, Shenzhen and Silicon Valley.
