(Yicai Global) Jan. 29 -- Leading Chinese automaker SAIC Motor Corp. has struck a partnership deal with blockchain operating system developer Elastos Foundation to develop central console systems for automobiles based on the technology.

The Beijing-based car manufacturer aims to bring in cutting-edge technologies for its models through the partnership which covers vehicular central consoles, electric car control units, high-performance computers and mobile phones, Tencent Technology reported on its website on Jan. 27.

Elastos will oversee development of communication security, identity authentication and data security solution. The company is a blockchain-based operating system created by Chen Rong and Han Feng, two senior programmers who graduated from Tsinghua University. Chen previously worked Microsoft Corp.'s research and development division while Han is a lifetime member of The Bitcoin Foundation.

The firm has secured investment from Beijing-based bitcoin mining hardware producer Bitmain Technologies Co., and online bitcoin exchange platform Huobi Technologies Co., Tencent Technology reported, though specific details were not disclosed.
