SAIC Will Ban Company Names With 'China,' Except Those State Council Approves SAIC Will Ban Company Names With 'China,' Except Those State Council Approves

(Yicai Global) Sept. 25 -- A draft document on the administration of company name registration the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) recently issued for public comment says no company names may use such Chinese characters as 'China,' 'Cathay,' etc. except for those the State Council approves.

The document further prohibits company names from incorporating such Chinese characters as those for 'central,' 'nationwide, 'national,' 'state,' and 'international,' also except with State Council approval.

It also directs that companies may not maliciously register names similar to those of already-registered enterprises.

It further proscribes the use of people's names, stylized names, pseudonyms, nicknames or other specific names in corporate monikers, except in cases of investment relations or authorization.
