Shanghai Composite Index Closes at Near One-Month Low

(Yicai Global) Sept. 30 -- Chinese mainland stock markets extended their losses in afternoon trading with the benchmark Shanghai market index touching near one-month low as investors opted to cash in their shares ahead of the week-long National Day holiday that starts tomorrow.

The major market indexes all wound up at their respective intraday low, with the Shanghai Composite Index down 0.92 percent at 2,905.19 at the close, a level not seen since Sept. 2, while the Shenzhen Component Index dropped 1.08 percent to 9,446.24. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks Shenzhen-listed growth enterprises, weakened 1.21 percent to 1,627.55.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.66 percent over this month, while the Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.86 percent. The ChiNext Price Index freshened 1.03 percent.
