Shanghai to Clear Out Unlicensed Ride-Sharing Drivers by Year-End Shanghai to Clear Out Unlicensed Ride-Sharing Drivers by Year-End

(Yicai Global) Oct. 22 -- Shanghai's traffic authorities have demanded all car-hailing platforms, including Didi Chuxing and Meituan-Dianping, to remove unqualified drivers from their lists by the end of this year.

Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission's law enforcement department, the Shanghai Traffic Police Corps, and the Urban Transportation Department have summoned 16 ride-hailing firms to review their drivers and services, state-backed The Paper reported. Didi Chuxing will be handled separately as it has not yet obtained a business license despite its ongoing operations in the eastern city.

Platforms also must get rid of drivers who have a criminal record, as well as those whose name does not match that of the registered car-owner's.
