(Yicai) Dec. 22 -- Shenzhen in China's southern Guangdong province will probably retain its leading export position among Chinese cities in 2023 for the 31st consecutive year, thanks to local private businesses and its electronics industry.

Shenzhen’s exports jumped 13.6 percent to CNY2.2 trillion (USD313 billion) in the 11 months ended Nov. 30 from a year earlier, local customs data showed. Its international trade rose 6.3 percent to CNY3.5 trillion.

In the same period, China’s trade was unchanged at CNY38 trillion (USD5.3 trillion), with exports up 0.3 percent at CNY21.6 trillion and imports down 0.5 percent at CNY16.4 trillion.

Shenzhen's pillar industry is electronics. Machinery and electronic products exports, mainly computer communications and other electronic devices, climbed 7.9 percent to CNY1.6 trillion in between January and November, accounting for 73 percent of the city's total.

Shenzhen's exports of lithium batteries jumped 19.4 percent to CNY60.2 billion (USD8.4 billion), those of electric cars skyrocketed 274 percent to CNY19.1 billion, and solar cells soared 32 percent to CNY3.1 billion (USD434 million).

The imports and exports of private firms, including local leaders such as personal computer giant Lenovo Group, new energy vehicle and battery maker BYD, and smartphone producer Honor, rose 12.5 percent to CNY2.3 trillion in the 11 months and accounted for 65 percent of the city's total, up 3.6 percentage points from a year ago.

Shanghai's exports rose 1.7 percent to CNY1.6 trillion in the same period, placing it second, driven by exports to members of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. Its international trade gained 1.2 percent to a record CNY3.9 trillion, ranking first in the country.

Meanwhile, exports from Suzhou in Jiangsu province fell 3.8 percent to CNY1.4 trillion, while its imports and exports totaled CNY2.2 trillion.
