(Yicai Global) July 11 -- The China Mobile Research Institute, Beijing Mobile and Datang Telecom Technology Co. [SHA:600198] set up a team to conduct 5G network tests in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Ningbo.

A kickoff event was held at China Mobile Research Institute's Innovation Building on July 6.

The parties will work together on 5G trials in the three critical years from 2017 to 2020 to promote a mature end-to-end industry, develop a 5G system prototype and test specifications for 5G standards, and incubate valuable innovative applications with the 5G Joint Innovation Center. The consortiums' tests will help advance platform architecture and verify the key performance of 3.5-gigahertz networks.

China is working with the international community to research and develop 5G, and the relevant departments and industries have made progress.

"China has carried out comprehensive 5G technology research and development, and has made important breakthroughs on several core 5G technologies," said Chen Zhaoxiong, vice-minister of industry and information technology, at the recent 2017 IMT-2020 (5G) Summit. "The second-phase test of 5G technology R&D trials is progressing smoothly, and extensive and deep cooperation with Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea has integrated global mainstream enterprises into the 5G technology trials."
