Tencent’s Honor of Kings Remains Top-Grossing Mobile Game in July, Sensor Tower Says Tencent’s Honor of Kings Remains Top-Grossing Mobile Game in July, Sensor Tower Says

(Yicai) Aug. 16 -- Honor of Kings, a multiplayer online battle arena published by China’s Tencent Holdings, kept its position as the best-selling mobile game worldwide last month, according to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower.

Honor of Kings earned USD220 million on the App Store and Google Play in July, thanks to the return of two limited-edition skins and a new hero called Doria, Sensor Tower said in a report today.

Tencent’s PUBG Mobile retook the spot for second-highest grossing mobile game globally with USD172 million. Sixty-three percent of that came from the Chinese iOS market, 8 percent from the United States, and 3.5 percent from India.

Justice Online by Chinese video games developer NetEase ranked third with USD113 million, thanks to its graphic design and rich game content. The other two in the top five were Royal Match by Dream Games and Candy Crush Saga by King.

Global mobile game players spent USD6.56 billion on the App Store and Google Play last month, basically the same as a year ago.

The US remains the world’s highest-grossing market for mobile games, contributing nearly USD1.9 billion, or nearly 29 percent of the global total. The Chinese iOS market ranked second, accounting for almost 20 percent, while the Japanese market was third, making a little over 16 percent, Sensor Tower said.
