Tesla to Sell China-Made Model Ys by June 2021, VP Says Tesla to Sell China-Made Model Ys by June 2021, VP Says

(Yicai Global) Dec. 1 -- Tesla will start producing and selling Model Ys in China by June 2021 amid its deepening push to widen its charging pile network, according to the US electric vehicle maker's global vice president.

Tesla doesn't rule out widening the access of its charging network to other car brands that meet the firm's technical, safety, and user experience requirements in the future as increasing efficiency results in spare energy, Grace Tao added, speaking at an online event today.

Early this year, Tesla started expanding the Shanghai factory which has been making Model 3s so far. Moreover, the California-headquartered firm said on Nov. 26 that it will spend CNY42 million (USD6.4 million) to build a charging pile plant in the same eastern city.

Production lines for the sport-utility vehicle model at the Shanghai Gigafactory are almost ready, Tesla said in its third-quarter financial report released on Oct. 21.

The charging pile plant is scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2021 with an annual capacity of 10,000 units at the initial stage, most of which are V3 superchargers, finance media outlet Bkeconomy.Com reported.

Tesla will have nearly 650 charging stations with 5,000 charging piles in over 250 Chinese cities by December, it said earlier. It should also have more than 2,000 destination charging piles at select partners' locations such as hotel and restaurant parking lots.
