(Yicai Global) July 9 -- Four projects separately developed by International Business Machines, Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare, Baidu and Carnegie Mellon University, and an artificial intelligence-themed paper from Tsinghua University have won the 2020 Super AI Leader Award, according to the results the organizer of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2020 unveiled at its opening ceremony this morning.

The SAIL Award is the top prize at the WAIC, with the letters of the acronym representing the four factors on which the award is based. They are superior, applicative, innovative and leading. This year's SAIL Award added excellent papers in the AI field to the candidates list.

Of the almost 800 outstanding Chinese and overseas projects vying for this year's distinction, which include those developed by leading AI businesses such as Amazon, IBM, Baidu, Tencent Holdings, JD.Com, Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies as well as those of leading-edge academic research, innovative technology and scenario applications, international ones made up nearly 10 percent, the highest percentage ever. Of the total, 23 percent are technical projects and 77 percent are application projects.

Of this year's winners, Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare-developed intelligent medical imaging diagnostic solution for Covid-19 uses AI tech in imaging, screening, diagnosis, follow-up checks and other links, and thus withstood the test during the Covid-19 outbreak in the central Chinese central city of Wuhan.
