(Yicai Global) May 11 -- The municipal government of Chengdu, the capital of China's western Sichuan province, has called in Chinese realty heavyweight Dalian Wanda Group Co. to help turn the city into a world-famous hub for sporting events.
Wanda Chairman Wang Jianlin attended a ceremony to mark the signing of a cooperation agreement with the local government, also attended by the city's Mayor Luo Qiang, the firm said in a statement.
The pair will work together on sports projects, strive to turn Chengdu into a world-famous sporting event city and a core city for Wanda's property development. The city aims to host top international sports events such as marathons, as well as competitions related to soccer, basketball, tennis, cycling and triathlon.
