Wuliangye, Other Listed Local Firms Are Unscathed by Sichuan Quake Wuliangye, Other Listed Local Firms Are Unscathed by Sichuan Quake

(Yicai Global) June 19 -- Several listed firms located in and around Yibin in China's southwestern Sichuan province have emerged intact and with their operations unaffected after a massive earthquake struck the region on June 17.

The 6.0-scale temblor, which occurred in the late hours at a focal depth of 16 kilometers, according to measurements by China's seismic monitoring network, had claimed 13 lives by early today and left 199 injured.

Distillery giant Wuliangye, chemical maker Tianyuan Group, Langsha Knitting and several other local listed firms have thus far suffered no impact on their regular operations or injuries to their employees, they announced, while pledging to take active steps to avert such harm and secure their property and assets.

Wuliangye, its fellow sorghum-based baijiu distiller Luzhou Laojiao, and other local listed firms have activated their emergency plans and will supply relief materials and aid to the disaster zone.

Wuliangye assisted fire fighters and rushed life detection, thermal imaging and other emergency equipment and relief supplies to the affected area within 75 minutes after the earthquake jolted the region and has donated CNY20 million (USD2.88 million) to support post-disaster reconstruction.

This area of Southwest China is particularly prone to major seismic events. An earthquake devastated Wenchuan county, which lies about 400 kilometers northwest of Yibin, in 2008, killing more than 87,000 people.
