(Yicai Global) Oct. 20 -- Chinese smartphone maker Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co. has officially released the latest generation of its bezel-less MIX2 handset in Taiwan as part of the firm's new local retail strategy, state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.
The mobile phone model was first released in mainland China in September.
Bezel-less or full-screen phones are expected to be a key trend in handset development over the next decade, said Xiaomi founder Lei Jun. Competitors Apple Inc. [NASDAQ:AAPL] and Huawei Technologies Co. have also recently unveiled full-screen phones.
Xiaomi has maintained good momentum since entering Taiwan three years ago, with sales volume increasing by 77 percent annually during the first nine months this year, said Li Jiafeng, the general manager at the firm's Taiwan office.
The company's Taiwan office will continue to pursue cost-effective strategies, implement a new retail strategy, and combine online and offline channels to improve efficiency and service experience, Li added.
Xiaomi currently operates a direct-sale store and a specialty store in Taiwan, and plans to add another two more offline stores in November this year.
