(Yicai Global) July 11 -- The internet search provider under China's Xinhua News Agency today released the country's first search engine app designed to shield teenagers from violence, pornography and gambling when they are online.

Supplied by Chinaso Information Technology and called Young, the app uses artificial intelligence to filter and block illegal and harmful information, Xinhua reported. It can also recommend courses, videos and animation to teens based on age, gender and interests.

The app has been downloaded more than 10 million times since it began trial operation on June 1 -- International Children's Day -- and ranks top in Apple's App Store, Yicai Global learned.

Chinaso was founded by Xinhua, China Central Television and five other news agencies in March 2014.
