(Yicai Global) Aug. 30 -- The use of China's yuan in global transactions rose to 2.04 percent last month, figures the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication released today show. The redback thus took fifth slot among currencies used in global settlements, unchanged from last year.

Use of the US dollar slipped to 38.99 percent of the total, its lowest showing since February, while the euro rose to command 34.71 percent in an apex unseen since September 2013, online news portal Finance Sina reported.

The gap between the greenback and euro narrowed to 4.27 percent, the least since February.

The UK economy's yuan use was second only to Hong Kong's, making up 5.58 percent of all yuan-denominated trade settlement transactions, per the report.
