(Yicai Global) Dec. 29 -- A missile attack near one of Zhongman Petroleum and Natural Gas Group’s oil fields in Iraq has not caused any casualties and operations are continuing as normal, the Chinese oil and gas explorer said today.
A projectile landed just 200 meters away from ZPEC’s drilling base in the Dhi Qar governorate in southern Iraq yesterday and was followed by live ammunition fire, the Shanghai-based company said. No one was injured and no property was damaged, it added.
The firm, which also has contracts in Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan and other countries, will step up its security detail to ensure the safe operation of its Iraq projects, it said.
ZPEC has always advocated hiring local staff since it entered the Middle Eastern country in 2011. At present it employs around 320 Iraqi nationals, it added.
ZPEC’s share price [SHA:603619] dipped 0.39 percent to close at CNY15.32 (USD2.40) today, giving it a market valuation of CNY6.1 billion (USD958 million).
