(Yicai) March 6 -- Cainiao Smart Logistics Network, the courier arm of Chinese internet giant Alibaba, is linking arms with the Geely Holding Group’s new energy bus and truck unit to jointly explore overseas markets.

The tie-up between Cainiao and Geely Yuancheng New Energy Commercial Vehicles Group includes the cross-border transportation of vehicles and car parts, the Hangzhou-based firms said in separate statements yesterday. The pair will build custom new energy vehicles and promote their use in overseas logistics scenarios.

Cainiao and Geely Yuancheng are also discussing potential cooperation in Europe, the courier noted, adding that its services cover all European ports, providing low-cost and highly effective distribution services for local clients through regional warehousing and logistics networks.

Founded in 2016, Geely Yuancheng specializes in the research, development, and manufacturing of new energy commercial vehicles. Its products include logistics trucks, buses, and special-purpose vehicles used in ports, mines, and other scenarios, according to its website.

Geely Yuancheng received an order for 5,000 commercial electric vehicles in 2022 from Admiral Mobility in the United Arab Emirates and started delivering the first batch last July. It also began exporting autos to Türkiye in January.
