(Yicai Global) Jan. 10 -- Beijing's total output in the animation and gaming sectors reached CNY62.7 billion (USD9.6 billion) last year to hit an all-time high.

The figure was up almost 20 percent on the year, state-backed People's Daily cited the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture as saying yesterday. The city formed a new ecosystem centered on e-sports last year, hosting finals for well-known games League of Legends and Arena of Valor to further expand its reach within the industry chain.

China's capital has become a research and development hub for the nation's animation and gaming industries. A number of well-known companies and products have emerged in recent years to form a complete industrial chain covering creation, publishing, distribution and development, the report added.

Beijing gaming firms, with top players including Cheetah Mobile Inc. and Perfect World Co., exported a total of CNY11.6 billion worth of original games last year, almost double the 2016 figure.
