Beijing’s Daxing Airport Inaugurates New Roving Face-Scan Check-In Beijing’s Daxing Airport Inaugurates New Roving Face-Scan Check-In

(Yicai Global) July 31 - Beijing's new Daxing International Airport launched its ‘One ID full-process face-scanning and customs clearance’ function today after completing its online testing. Passengers can now verify their identity by scanning their faces anywhere to complete all boarding procedures in advance, the airport announced on its official WeChat account today.

Under the previous system, passengers with valid booking documents were already able to check in, pass through security and undergo a face scan on-site to board their planes at the start of the airport’s operations last year.

The newly-tested ‘One ID’ adds passenger off-site identity verification that lets passengers complete identity verification and face image collection anywhere outside the airport, such as at home and on en route. They need not show IDs or boarding passes on arrival and can complete their travel by scanning their faces throughout their journeys.

With passengers’ consent, information that has passed the identity verification is stored in the One ID system at the airport for one year. No further identity verification is required if the passenger travels again during this time.

The trial was only carried out on the flights of China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, per reports. The test was successful and the conditions for activating the system are now in place.
