[CIIE] Brazil’s Green Transformation Opens New Avenues for Chinese Companies [CIIE] Brazil’s Green Transformation Opens New Avenues for Chinese Companies

(Yicai) Nov. 10 -- Brazil’s green transition, prominently featured at the 8th China International Import Expo, is creating new cooperation opportunities for Chinese firms, particularly in sectors related to sustainable agriculture, renewable resources, and infrastructure development, industry experts said.

At the expo, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) showcased Amazon rainforest products, including açaí berries, alongside Brazil-flavored coffee and açaí ice cream jointly developed with Chinese companies, which drew considerable interest from visitors.

Laudemir Andre Muller, head of ApexBrasil’s agriculture department, expressed optimism about the future of Sino-Brazilian agricultural cooperation. Climate change poses a shared challenge for both nations, he said, noting that Brazil can contribute tropical agricultural expertise and technologies. At the same time, China can provide advanced domestic innovations and investment in Brazil’s infrastructure and logistics -- areas in urgent need of improvement.

Brazilian pulp producer Suzano also highlighted its renewable-resource-based products and solutions at the CIIE, aiming to support low-carbon and high-quality economic growth in China and globally, said Pablo Machado, president of Suzano Asia. He noted that the paper producer is restoring biodiversity by connecting fragmented native forests through planted ones, having reconnected more than 150,000 hectares of forest areas in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Vale, a major global producer of iron ore and nickel, emphasized its long-term commitment to the Amazon. Celebrating its 40th anniversary of operations in the region, the company showcased the dynamic ecology and biodiversity of the Amazon in its CIIE booth.

Latin American nations are accelerating efforts to develop green and low-carbon industries but face infrastructure and talent shortages, said Cai Ling, global cross-border services managing partner at PwC China. Strengthened international collaboration can help bridge these gaps more quickly, Cai added.
