(Yicai) Jan. 21 -- The operating unit of ByteDance's Doubao has agreed for the artificial intelligence assistant to serve as docent for two major international exhibitions at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai, providing visitors with detailed interpretations of exhibits.

ByteDance's subsidiary and the Museum of Art Pudong inked a deal yesterday, naming Doubao the official AI docent for the museum's "The Wonder of Patterns: Masterpieces from India, Iran and the Ottoman World from the Musée du Louvre" and "Picasso Through the Eyes of Paul Smith" exhibitions, which opened last month and will run through early May.

Visitors can ask Doubao to deliver professional interpretations of the displayed works from multiple dimensions, including artistic style, historical background, creative techniques, and cultural significance.

The interaction between AI and users is essentially a conversational experience, Zhu Jun, vice president of ByteDance, told Yicai. Doubao will hopefully be able to arouse visitors' existing feelings and experiences through empathetic questions and heuristic dialogues, helping them form a more engaging understanding of the exhibits, Zhu noted.

The biggest challenge for exhibition AI docents is ensuring the accuracy of their interpretations, which requires the AI model to distinguish cultural relics with highly similar appearances, understand niche exhibits that lack public interpretation materials, and have stable recognition of the same exhibit when visitors observe it from different spots, a person in charge of the Doubao Museum Tour project said to Yicai.
