(Yicai Global) Jan. 16 -- Chengdu, a metropolis in Southwestern China's Sichuan province, will endow two university scholarships to lure more students from other One Belt, One Road countries to promote educational exchanges and cooperation between nations along the routes, official Chengdu media Sichuanzaixian reported.

The two are the Government Scholarship for International Students From Countries along the Belt and Road and the Chengdu ASEAN Arts Scholarship for students majoring in arts from ASEAN countries.

Chengdu's full-time institutions of higher education receive the former to encourage students from countries along the Belt and Road routes to apply. The latter mainly subsidizes international undergraduate students or those with higher degrees from ASEAN countries who study arts in the city's universities. Those from Chengdu International Sister Cities and other Belt and Road countries also qualify, and the funding further extends to outstanding students from Europe and the Americas.

The scholarships mainly defray tuition, accommodation, living and medical insurance costs. The highest-value ASEAN arts scholarship grants doctoral students CNY42,000 (USD6,512) per academic year for three years.
