(Yicai Global) Jan. 15 -- Chengdu, capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province, plans to build a consumer-oriented city focusing on output value of life services sector. The city aims to form five CNY100 billion consumer markets, namely, commerce, tourism, culture, food and healthcare, with a total output value of USD77.7 billion by 2022.

Chengdu unveiled its development goals at a life services sector development conference on Jan. 13. Known for its habitat, Chengdu will actively work to build a world-renowned city of cultural innovation, tourism and sports. It will also create a city brand in music, events and exhibitions and fashion.

Chengdu currently boasts some advantages in leisure tourism. It generated CNY250 billion in tourism revenues in 2016, ranking second only to Guangzhou, excluding four provincial level municipal cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, showed a report by its local government.

At present, the total supply of services in pre-school education, sports, public transport and domestic services is short, the government report added, saying life services in rural areas are relatively low, creating a big gap between urban and rural areas. In 2016, Chengdu achieved an added value of CNY233 billion in life services sector, accounting for 38.3 percent of the added value in the services sector as a whole. The scale of the industry ranked fifth in cities outside the four municipalities.
