China's Bike-Sharing Ofo Rides Into the Czech Capital China's Bike-Sharing Ofo Rides Into the Czech Capital

(Yicai Global) Oct. 17 -- China's bike-sharing Ofo began operating in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic yesterday, and immediately won the hearts of locals, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Ofo launch points attracted crowds that day, with most curious about the bikes and inquiring about application methods.

Some aspiring riders successfully rented velos and soon pedaled away. A total of 300 Ofo bikes came onto the streets for a trial run in Prague's 7th district that day, with registered members able to use them for free until the end of the year, and CZK10 (USD0.48) charged per half hour next year, Ofo's Czech operator said. If all rolls smoothly along, more launch points will be added in other city districts soon.

The operator was glad that Prague had opted forChina's  Ofo bike-sharing scheme, he told state-run Xinhua News Agency. "Prague has many gravel roads, and this imposes high requirements on the quality of bicycle tires and bearings."

Bike-sharing provides another interesting way for residents to ply their activities in the city, the deputy head of the 7th district responsible for the bike-sharing project told Yicai Global. "I think bike-sharing has good prospects in Prague and it reduces traffic in the city center, which is one of the directions of our efforts," he said.
