(Yicai Global) March 10 -- China has launched a WeChat mini-program for its citizens to show their Covid-19 test results and vaccination status to authorities abroad.

The International Travel Health Certificate mini-program was brought online on March 8, just a day after Foreign Minister Wang Yi revealed the plan.

Many countries and regions are working to debut "vaccine passports." Israel has introduced a "green passport," offering access to cultural events, for those residents who have already gotten vaccinated against the new coronavirus. Thailand and the European Union are reportedly planning to launch their own versions.

The Chinese program on Tencent Holdings' social media platform creates a QR code to let authorities verify users' Covid-19 test results. The document can also be printed out. But a digital vaccine record is still "under construction." The platform requires travelers to register with their IDs and allow facial recognition.

Drafts show that design work for the mini-program that is based on mutual international recognition began in January, the Paper reported, citing Wang Xinyu, deputy chief physician at Huashan Hospital's department of infectious diseases.
