China's Mainland Stock Markets Bottom Out of Afternoon Slump

(Yicai Global) Aug. 6 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland clawed back late this afternoon after sliding by more than 2 percent in the morning session.

The Shanghai Composite Index ended the day 1.56 percent lower at 2,777.56. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 8,859.47, down 1.4 percent, and the ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, finished 1.53 percent lower at 1,507.91.

The SSE Star Market, a new board that tracks 25 tech firms in Shanghai, finally showed signs of slowing after a stellar first two weeks. Only one company ended the day higher -- Xi'an Bright Laser Technologies [SHA:688333] was up 1.4 percent at CNY101.4 (USD14.41) -- while some 13 firms retreated by more than 10 percent.
