China's Mainland Stock Markets Closed Slightly Up Before Start of Holiday Weekend

(Yicai Global) June 24 -- China's mainland stock exchanges all closed marginally higher today as trading slowed before the start of the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

The Shanghai Composite Index ended the day up 0.3 percent at 2,979.55. The Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.17 percent to reach 11,813.53. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, inched up 0.02 percent to 2,382.47.

Chip makers, property developers and banks led the markets, while the catering sector and medical firms fared the worst.

There were only three trading days this week before the start of the long weekend tomorrow. Over the course of the week, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.4 percent, the Shenzhen Component Index edged up 1.25 percent and the ChiNext Index gained 2.72 percent.
