(Yicai Global) May 20 -- China's mainland stock markets retreated from a mixed open in the morning session, though lithium battery suppliers bucked the trend.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.45 percent lower at 2,885.54 for lunch, while the Shenzhen Component Index was at 10,986.44, down 0.6. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, ended the morning down 0.51 percent at 2,133.09.

Lithium battery firms jumped 2 percent on average, with electric vehicle battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology [SHE:300750] gaining 6.78 percent to finish the session at CNY152.97 (USD21.53).
