(Yicai Global) June 27 -- Big three telecoms operator China Mobile plans to set up 5G innovation funds to further improve industrial chains related to the new technology and accelerate the development of intelligent hardware.
The Beijing-based firm is moving ahead with its own plans to build a high-quality Internet of Things ecosystem while focusing on large-scale tests of 5G communications, China Mobile Chairman Shang Bing said in his keynote speech at the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Shanghai today.
The 5G era may become a crucial watershed for the telecommunications market, Shang said, adding that "anyone who can better control the 5G market will be able to achieve more sustainable and high-quality development."
China Mobile subscribers totaled over 900 million this May, with a net increase of 2.3 million annually.
