China Pauses Lenovo Antitrust Probe China Pauses Lenovo Antitrust Probe

(Yicai Global) Nov. 18 -- A local office of China's State Administration for Market Regulation has suspended its investigation into Lenovo Group's alleged monopolistic practices because the company has actively cooperated, Beijing Daily reported today.

Market regulators in Beijing launched a preliminary monopoly investigation of Lenovo in Nov. 9, 2017. As the producer and sales and after-sales service company of its computer brand and related products, the company forced its authorized service centers to charge rock-bottom prices for some parts and services from 2016 to 2017, the authorities claimed.

Beijing-based Lenovo admitted to resale price manipulation, as well as their its effects on market competition, and immediately ceased jacking prices and revised its service agreement. The company will take further steps to actively and effectively eliminate the effects of these acts, it said.

The firm applied for an antitrust investigation suspension with a pledge to amend its actions. The regulator, which put the investigation on ice in based on the law, will monitor the Lenovo's commitments in case violations re-occur, whereupon the probe will fire up again.

The company must submit a written report on the performance of its commitments to the regulator by Nov. 30.

Lenovo is the world's largest personal computer seller, shipping 58.5 million units to claim a 22.5 percent share of the world PC market last year, China Daily reported.
