China Probes FedEx for Gunrunning China Probes FedEx for Gunrunning

(Yicai Global) Aug. 19 -- A Chinese sporting goods company received a parcel from FedEx sent by a US customer and found guns inside.

A case file has been opened and the matter is under investigation, police in Fuzhou, capital of China's southeastern province where the incident occurred, said yesterday

China applies strict controlling principles when it comes to regulation of guns, given their deadly and injurious character, and their unauthorized production, purchase and sale or transport are subject to investigation for imposition of criminal liability under Chinese regulations.

Memphis, Tennessee-based FedEx also came under the official Chinese lens last month for misdirecting packages sent by domestic telecom equipment giant Huawei Technologies to the US, Reuters reported. Shenzhen-based Huawei had dispatched two parcels from Japan bound for China on May 23, which failed to arrive at their destination, and were instead diverted to the US. The international express courier also attempted to reroute two other packages Huawei sent from Vietnam to affiliates in Singapore and Hong Kong, also to the United States without Huawei's consent.

FedEx (China) later denied this report on its official account on China's Twitter-like Weibo.

The investigation China's national authorities launched found on July 26 that FedEx's claims the diversions stemmed from an "operational error" does not accord with the facts.

The probe also discovered that the company withheld hundreds of the Chinese telecom and smartphone titan's deliveries incoming into China, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing the investigators, who have also uncovered evidence of other violations of law as their wide-ranging probe continues to unfold, per the report.
