(Yicai Global) April 10 -- China's customs has expanded the scope of strengthened supervision regarding medical equipment exports to ensure sufficient quality standards.

The General Administration of Customs added six more categories, including disinfectants, medical gloves, goggles, and patient monitoring devices, to the new policy that requires exporters to obtain a document from thenational drug regulator toverify that the products meet the requirements.

At the end of March, Chinese regulators announced that exporters of five categories of products, including reagents, medical masks, protective clothing, ventilators, and infrared thermometers, need to present such proof.

Besides confiscating illegal income, China will present crooked exporters with fines worth up to three times the value of goods, the GAC added.

Since the end of March, some 11.2 million products have been seized due to lack of certification, the GAC said on April 5. Nearly 90 percent of the volume involved facial masks, followed by protective clothing and Covid-19 testing kits.
