(Yicai) May 23 -- Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, blocked several accounts of wealth-flaunting vloggers who have over one million followers this week amid tightening regulations.

Some of the targeted accounts are 王红权星 (Wanghongquanxing) and 柏公子 (Baigongzi), Yicai learned. The former had 4.4 million followers on Douyin. He claimed he has seven mansions in Beijing and does not go out without having CNY10 million (USD1.9 million) in his pocket.

The latter had 2.9 million followers on Douyin until his account was blocked on May 21. He drives a Porsche 911 and used to make videos of his life of traveling around the world first-class and shopping luxury goods. His accounts on Xiaohongshu and Weibo were also blocked.

Last month, the Cyberspace Administration of China called for the rectification of content that worships luxury, as well as fake news, hyped and clout-chasing social topics, and clickbait articles that use catchy titles.

With the gradual increase of user groups consuming short videos, the platforms are becoming inundated with vulgar and fake content, according to industry research institute Qianzhan.

On May 15, Tencent, Douyin, Kuaishou, Weibo, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu announced that they would severely crack down on content that is excessively extravagant, consumerist, or wasteful.
