Chinese Consumer Goods Shares Rise in Afternoon on Signs of Reignited Street Culture (Yicai Global) June 4 -- Chinese mainland stock market slid in the afternoon while consumer goods fared better than others as many Chinese cities have recently proposed to revive the once-vibrant culture of open-air street stalls.
The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,919.25, down 0.2 percent. The Shenzhen Component Index edged up 0.28 percent to 11,139.26. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, fell 0.39 percent to 2,151.39.
Liquor and beverage stocks gained 1.92 percent today and clothing retailers climbed 1.8 percent.
