Chinese Couriers Will Not Shut for Spring Festival, but Some Will Charge Extra Chinese Couriers Will Not Shut for Spring Festival, but Some Will Charge Extra

(Yicai Global) Jan. 24 -- Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year, will roll along in less than one month, and 10 major Chinese express companies have all said that they will continue their services during the holiday, but some will apply extra charges of around CNY10 (USD1.57) for each package.

China Postal Express & Logistics Company Ltd., China's oldest express brand, said that it will ensure its services are year-round as usual. Yunda Holding Co., [SHE:002120] also posted a statement on its website that its headquarters will form a special working group in charge of coordinating business during the vacation, cnr.cn reported today. S.F. Holding Co. [SHE:002352], STO Express Co. [SHE:002468] and the logistics units of e-commerce platforms JD.Com and Suning.Com all said they will also stay open. Some will, however, apply extra charges of around CNY10 per package for the benefit of their couriers who choose to work overtime.

Most deliverymen will still go home to celebrate the holiday. The considerable bonus aside, those opting to work during the holiday will also be allowed to take time off after the festival, said one. All staff can in principle choose to work overtime on their own without any compulsion brought to bear.

Customer demand always needs to be factored in in the service industry, an insider said. The need for express services during the Lunar New Year will be 30-35 percent of regular demand, he noted.
