(Yicai Global) June 14 -- Hackers that threatened to publish stolen data on nearly 10 million AcFun users have said they would delete the database based on the video platform's sincere attitude toward customer service and their love for the anime world.
The pirates did not sell the database and are sorry for distributing information belonging to 300 of the platform's users, tech news site Leifeng reported, citing a post on an underground online forum last night. A screenshot had been circulating online allegedly showing eight million pieces of AcFun data, including phone numbers, up for grabs on the deep web for CNY12,000 (USD1,900).
The theft prompted Beijing-based AcFun, which was bought by Tencent-backed Kuaishou in a CNY1 billion (USD156 million) deal earlier this month, to ramp up its security protocols. It also suggested users change their password on AcFun and any other websites on which they use the same one.
AcFun's mishap sparked rumors online that bike sharer Mobike and the Ministry of Railways' ticket booking site, 12306.com, had also been hacked. A screenshot supposedly of Mobike user data selling for CNY400,000 (USD62,000) is also doing the round the rounds, but the firm and the ministry issued statements yesterday denying the speculation.
