LA Made Most Money From Chinese Among Foreign Tourists Last Year LA Made Most Money From Chinese Among Foreign Tourists Last Year

(Yicai Global) May 9 -- China has become the most lucrative overseas source country for tourism in Los Angeles, California, as the sunny state topped US charts in terms of popularity among Chinese travelers.

LA's tourism revenue hit a new high of USD23.9 billion last year, and Chinese travelers made up USD1.6 billion, or 7 percent, of that, Ernest Wooden, director of LA Tourism & Convention Board, told state-owned Xinhua News Agency.

Chinese tourists have played an important role in the city's record-high annual tourism incomes for eight straight years, Wooden said. LA became the most popular destination among Chinese tourists in the US in 2016, breaking the level of one million Chinese tourists. The figure rose to 1.1 million in 2017.

The board will keep its focus on the Chinese market and improve its appeal to the Chinese, Wooden added.

The city received 1.2 million Chinese tourists in 2018, state-backed Economic Information Daily reported, citing the latest data from the tourism board. The state attracted 50 million tourists, among which 42.5 million were domestic ones, and almost 7.5 million were from abroad.
