(Yicai Global) July 14 -- As major industrial cloud computing suppliers have no time to address the market for small and middle-sized enterprises (SMEs), some emerging industrial cloud platforms have carved out a niche in the sector.

Small and medium enterprises are many and varied but some have inadequate funds and talents, an industry insider told Yicai Global.

"Sometimes when industrial giants are at loggerheads, those new emerging platforms get the chance instead," Tu Wei, the former senior manager of Reis Robotics said.

The present platforms released by major industrial giants still lack distinct industrial characteristics, and industry sectors covered by these platforms are limited. It appears major platforms have not designed professional applications for specific industries.

This allows newcomers access to the market, including Shandong Wan Teng Electronics Technology and Shanghai Da Zhi, industrial solution suppliers. Despite being companies are small-sized, they are capable to launch industrial cloud platforms based on the present features of SMEs including the significant amount, wide range, and inadequate funds and talents.

SMEs have quite clear and urgent demands for informatization and intelligence-based upgrading, Wang Miao, the chief Big Data engineer of Wan Teng Electronics Technology concluded from an investigation of Zhejiang, an eastern province of China.

Large-scale industrial cloud platforms employ operating systems like Windows or Android, which have adequate resources and powerful and convenient functions. For SMEs, it is unfeasible to copy or imitate the model of major companies' informatization practice, which costs tens of millions of yuan.

Moreover, the system generated could be cumbersome and complicated. In summary, a large and fully-functional operating system is inferior to small systems like DOS that is easily accessible and economical, Wang said.

The imbalance between supply and demand is also a major obstacle for the advancement of industrial cloud platforms. As the standardized requirements for industrial cloud platforms are quite demanding, many SMEs think that they cannot offer precise customization.

To this end, Bob Buttermore, the Chinese business chairman of Rockwell Automation said that, it is their business to fully understand customers' demands and offer corresponding solutions, no matter for which technologies, solutions, or services.
