(Yicai) March 5 -- Chinese technology giants Tencent Holdings and Alibaba Group Holding have decided to tear down the barriers blocking access between their two communication tools.

Tencent’s WeChat users can now directly start a meeting on Alibaba’s DingTalk without having to download the DingTalk app, Yicai learned. Meanwhile, DingTalk users can share existing meetings on WeChat.

The number of Dingtalk users exceeded 700 million by the end of last year, President Yu Jun said back then, adding that as a software company, DingTalk had a particularly high gross profit margin and would achieve profitability in the next three to five years.

In January, the person in charge of WeCom, Tencent’s workplace collaboration app, said that WeCom was confident in achieving profitability before its rivals DingTalk and Feishu, the enterprise productivity app under TikTok’s owner ByteDance.

Last month, Alibaba’s e-commerce platform Taobao allowed users to pay with Tencent’s payment platform WeChat Pay for selected items.

In September last year, Alibaba’s digital marketing platform Alimama Market announced it would deepen ties with Tencent Advertising to allow users to access stores on Taobao and Tmall through high-quality advertisements on WeChat Channels, Moments, and Mini Programs.

Moreover, Yicai learned that Tencent Games joined hands with other external social media and video platforms, such as Xiaohongshu, Douyin, and Bilibili, last year. In January, Tencent Games announced it would allow live broadcasts of its top mobile game Honor of Kings on Douyin.
