Chinese Youth Splurge Less Online Than Seniors But Complain More, Qihoo Report Shows Chinese Youth Splurge Less Online Than Seniors But Complain More, Qihoo Report Shows

(Yicai Global) March 14 -- Chinese adolescents are more likely than those aged beyond 30 to place complaints about their online purchases, according to a report from Beijing's internet security company Qihoo 360.

Chinese youth born between the 1990s and 2000 made 35 percent of all complaints, ranking first, the report that gathered data from Qihoo 360's various platforms shows. Most of the criticism was about hidden fees, followed by misleading product descriptions.

The products that these mostly less than 30-year-olds bought were consumer goods such as clothing and apparel, as well as wine and food.

Those born after 2000 were second-most active with a tally of 27 percent of the total. Their dissatisfaction involved mostly games that were supposed to be free to play.

Older consumers were less likely to complain despite their larger accrued losses. Those born in the decade of 1970s suffered the biggest per capita loss of over CNY10,100 (USD1,511).

Consumers should communicate with merchants, while taking screenshots of all related details such as product promotions in order to secure their rights, the report suggested.
