(Yicai) May 28 -- Creators, filmmakers, influencers and other players in Shanghai’s large audio-visual industry gathered at the third Shanghai Internet Audio and Video Creators Conference, which kicked off today, to discuss how artificial intelligence is reshaping content creation.

Hong Kong director Stanley Tong gave one of the keynote speeches at the opening ceremony held on Fuxing Island in Shanghai’s northeastern Yangpu district. In his talk entitled “The Integration of AI into Traditional Film, Television and Online Audio-Visual Media,” he emphasized that creators in the film and TV industry still need to maintain professionalism in the era of AI.

And He Jiashan, head of multimodal marketing at AI startup MiniMax, spoke on how multimodal AI models are being applied across the creative process in her speech “Multimodal AI Reshaping New Creative Paradigms.”

Other speakers at the opening ceremony included video creators Xiao Wang Albert and Bandiaozi Bill from video-sharing platform Bilibili, as well as influencers Yang Xizhe and Roxycat from Rednote, formerly known as Xiaohongshu, who shared their experiences and reflections on using AI in content creation.

The two-day conference, with the theme “Blossoms in Infinite Frames,” also includes a themed exhibition, a creator workshop and an outdoor carnival. The exhibition highlights the development of Shanghai’s internet and audio-visual industry, the AI content ecosystem layout of leading platforms and works by top creators. The outdoor carnival offers visitors hands-on experiences with immersive AI interactive devices.

As a major hub for China’s online audio-visual industry, Shanghai’s audio-visual sector reached CNY253 billion (USD37.3 billion) last year, with a diversified ecosystem spanning long-form videos, mid-length videos, short videos, online audio and livestreaming.

Shanghai currently hosts 52 licensed audio-visual platforms, including Rednote, a leader in the field of short-form video, Bilibili and Migu Video, which are both major players in mid-to-long-form content, as well as audio platforms Ximalaya, Fanshu, Qingting FM and Xiaoyuzhou.

In July last year, Shanghai unveiled nine measures to support high-quality internet content creation, covering policy support, platform development, talent cultivation and industry collaboration. The goal is to strengthen the content creation ecosystem and provide creators with more opportunities to showcase their work, communicate with each other, receive training and get access to resources. This year’s conference is a direct reflection of these initiatives.
