(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 -- Eleme.com, a famous online food delivery platform in China, said yesterday that it will open unstaffed E-Convenience shops, Lieyunwang.com reported.
Eleme.com said that the self-service stores will provide customers with small shelf and refrigerator installation, food and beverages for 15 percent to 20 percent lower than market prices, regular maintenance and after-sales services, and personalized products.
E-Convenience is an offline project operated by Eleme.com's new retail business department and others, and they are still testing it, Lieyunwang.com reported. Eleme.com introduced an online store brand called E-Convenience earlier this year, but it is another project, despite having the same name as the unstaffed stores.
Unstaffed shops allow customer to enter, select goods, pay (possibly by scanning a QR code with WeChat or Alipay), and leave without interacting with a human clerk.
Eleme.com belongs to Shanghai Rajax Information Technology Co., and Alibaba Group [NYSE:BABA] became Eleme.com's largest shareholder in 2015. In its foray into cashier-less retail, Eleme.com will be able to rely on Alibaba's integrated supply chain system.
