Expressway to New Beijing Airport Nears Completion Expressway to New Beijing Airport Nears Completion

(Yicai Global) Dec. 3 -- Construction of the expressway to the new Beijing Daxing International Airport is almost complete, according to state-owned broadcaster CCTV.

The road features four rotating bridges which weigh a combined 10,000 tons and turn up to 70 degrees, a technician told CCTV. Construction was difficult as the bridges needed to be built to a high-degree of accuracy to avoid problems with the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway which runs below them, he added.

The new airport is set to open on Sept. 30 next year and the expressway leading to it is scheduled for completion in the first half of next year to ensure easy access for passengers once the transport hub opens.

There are three other highways and three rail links that will connect with the airport, connecting it to the capital's key central areas, according to an official at the local transport commission.

"It will take less than one hour to reach Tianjin, Tangshan and Baoding [both in Hebei province], and other cities from the airport," the official said. "It will take less than two hours to get to Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao [Hebei province], Jinan [Shandong province] and other cities -- these broad connections to surrounding cities will greatly improve the new airport's influence as a transport hub."
