(Yicai Global) Sept. 5 -- Alphabet Inc. [NASDAQ:GOOG], which runs world-renowned search engine Google, is hiring staff in China, fueling speculation about its return to the country.
Alphabet's recruitment page lists at least 20 jobs based in Beijing, covering engineering, marketing, product management and artificial intelligence. The firm is also hiring in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Li Jia, head of Google's machine learning and artificial intelligence research department, hosted an AI forum in Wuzhen, in eastern Zhejiang province, in May, when speculation was rife that Google was heading back to China.
Many Google services, along with several foreign social media platforms and news sites, are banned in China for distributing information the Chinese government does not want citizens to see.
