Guizhou Pioneers in Big Data With Clear Development Path to Overtake Advanced Regions, Says Official(Yicai Global) July 7 -- Guizhou, South China's relatively less-developed province, has become a pioneer in big data area with only four years of development. During an exclusive interview with Yicai Global, Kang Keyan, deputy director of Guizhou Big Data Development Administration Bureau, said the economic advancement and industrial restructuring achieved in the province have already demonstrated its effect on big data development, showing Guizhou a clear development path to overtake advanced regions as a second mover.
Kang told Yicai Global that the moderate climate, stable geology and abundant energy resources that Guizhou enjoys provide the province with inherent advantages for advancement of big data industry. Guizhou made inroads into big data development earlier than China's other regions, and has become a pioneer in various aspects through its pilot projects.
He remarked that Guizhou started to develop its data center from data storage, and businesses including three major internet and telecommunication giants, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Huawei Technologies Co. and Foxconn Technology Group, have set up over 10 data centers in Guizhou.
Kang noted that Guiyang and Gui'an have become China's first national big data industrial cluster as early as in February 2015, laying a solid basis for settlement of domestic and foreign companies in Guizhou. Well-known corporations at home and abroad such as Qualcomm Inc., Alibaba, Hewlett Packard Co., Microsoft Corp., Tencent Holdings Ltd., JD.com, Inc., Baidu, Inc. and Inspur Technologies Co. have all come to Guizhou to develop businesses.
Kang added that Guizhou has accumulated the necessary resources, policies, technologies and talents, among others, over the past two years, Kang said, and it welcomes enterprises to grow in Guizhou, and extends trial and error opportunities for them.
Kang said the big data application has also improved the governance ability of local government, and the construction and operation of the cloud platform has provided more precise and customized services for local people and enterprises. In the meantime, after initiating the action plan of "data cage," Guiyang enables the authority to operate under transparent digital records that cover the whole process.
Kang further pointed out that the big data industry has also helped transition and upgrading of local traditional enterprises. For instance, giant of the liquor industry, Kweichow Moutai Group, has achieved whole-process traceability of products and well-targeted sales management by employing big data technologies.
