(Yicai Global) Sept. 21 -- Shanghai's Hongqiao Central Business District is looking to increase floor space at its two bonded exhibition platforms due to the upcoming China International Import Expo.

The Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center, as well as the Greenland Global Commodity Trading Hub, will both be expanded by 100,000 square meters, Xinmin Evening News reported. The annual event will be held in less than 50 days in Hongqiao CBD.

Via the upgrading project, Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trading Center will have new exhibition halls, including a cross-border e-commerce experience center and a wine exhibition center.

Before the expo starts, some 20,000 smqs of fresh exhibition halls should be opened to the public, said Cai Jun, general manager of the center. That space should house products of over 1,800 brands, made by nearly 200 businesses that are coming from more than 70 countries and regions. More than 70 percent of the goods should be there for the CIIE.

Greenland Global Commodity Trading Hub already has the biggest number of national pavilions in China at 39, set up by 64 countries and regions.

The hub will host new product launches, cultural performances, and CIIE tours to make the expo more beneficial to participants while taking care of good epidemic control, said an employee at the venue.
