(Yicai Global) Jan. 22 -- Huawei Technologies and Dalian Wanda Group have agreed to work together to build fifth-generation mobile infrastructure at Wanda Plazas, the real estate conglomerate's mixed-use complexes, and promote the technology's commercial application.

Under the deal signed in Shenzhen today, the two companies will jointly develop the technical plan for the 5G network architecture and promote the infrastructure's construction, Wanda said in a statement. It did not disclose any financial details.

The target is to complete 5G network construction and achieve commercial use in at least five Wanda Plazas in China's first-tier cities this year and expand it in more than 400 Wanda Plazas across the country by 2022.

By the end of 2018, Wanda had opened 280 Wanda Plazas, and held and managed 45.87 million square meters of property in China, with an annual footfall of 3.8 billion, as per the company's latest data. It opened 43 new Wanda Plazas last year. China's telecoms operators officially launched 5G services on Nov. 1.

Huawei, 5G network operators and Shanghai Bingsheng Technology, a network technology joint venture between Wanda and Tencent Holdings, will jointly implement the project, the statement said.

Wanda Plaza and Huawei, China's biggest technology company, will also hold a 5G application contest to select and incubate a wide range of commercial applications and solutions for 5G scenarios around the world.

Wanda said that the 5G networks are expected to better help data collection at the commercial centers, improve their data governance capabilities and enhance digital business services to merchants while boosting customers' shopping and entertainment experience.
