Hyundai China Opens Its First Big Data Center in Guizhou to Strengthen Connected Car R&D Hyundai China Opens Its First Big Data Center in Guizhou to Strengthen Connected Car R&D

(Yicai Global) Sept. 28 -- Hyundai Motor Group China Ltd., the Chinese subsidiary of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. [KRX:005830], has set up its first Big Data center in China's southwestern Guizhou province to help analyze data collected from its smart cars, TMTPost reported on Sept. 28.

The new facility will help the firm advance its capabilities in connected car research and development as well as market forecasting.

The company held a ceremony to mark the facility's opening in the provincial capital of Guiyang. Hyundai is the first automobile company to settle in Guizhou's Big Data center park.

The center is located in Gui'an new district and occupies an area of 1,200 square meters. Global tech giants such as Apple Inc. [NASDAQ:AAPL], Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA], and IBM Corp. [NYSE:IBM] have also set up data centers in the area.

Hyundai's Big Data center in China lays the foundation for the establishment of its China-focused Car Cloud. The company set up its first Hyundai Car Cloud in South Korea in 2013, and after accumulating years of technological experience and expertise in the Internet of Vehicles, the company now plans to apply its knowledge in China.

The firm plans to establish similar data centers in other major regions of the world.

Hyundai will also work with China United Network Communications Group Ltd., one of China's big three mobile operators and better known as China Unicom, to use data to develop intelligent car services tailor-made for Chinese consumers.
