Forty-one of these are confirmed locally transmitted cases and the other 128 are asymptomatic, according to the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, which calculates over a 24-hour period from midnight the day before to midnight that day.
The count includes two asymptomatic cases which turned into confirmed cases and 122 people who developed Covid-19 while in quarantine, the commission said. The rest were identified while testing high-risk groups.
The city government is calling on people not to travel unless absolutely necessary and has suspended some long-distance bus services. Everyone who comes to Shanghai must test negative within 48-hours before arrival.
